Overseeding the wheat pasture after harvest will work fine. The stubble from the wheat will decay and disappear in time. The only chemicals that may have been applied to the wheat are nitrogen for growth and insecticide for army worms. Both would have been used in the fall and would not pose a problem in the spring. You will need to allow a couple of months for the grass to take root before grazing. Additionally, you can expect some volunteer wheat to emerge, which will provide lush grazing for your horses. When you start grazing, put the horses on the field half hour a day for a week and then increase the time to an hour a day. After three to four weeks, your horse will have adapted, and continuous grazing will be possible.
