FAQ #37514

How much time each day do children under age six spend viewing screen media?

Last Updated: May 27, 2009

View as web page

Children under six are spending no more than two hours a day using screen media. This includes watching television, movies, video games, and using the computer.

Children are introduced to media early. Children as young as three months old spend 45 minutes in front of the television; most children less than two years old spend up to 90 minutes watching television. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under two years old have no screen time and their media use be limited to no more than two hours of older children.
