Since it is natural for a horse to eat off the ground, should I avoid using a wall-mounted feeder in the stall? My horses always throw the hay out of the feeder onto the floor.

You're right that horses naturally will eat off the ground. However, using a wall feeder still has many benefits. It decreases feed waste even though your horse is throwing some hay out on the ground. It also decreases the exposure to internal parasite eggs and creates a cleaner eating environment free of foreign objects.
