A lump can sometimes occur under the skin at the site of an intravenous (IV) injection (hematoma). This may be the result of some fluid (e.g. blood) gathering at that location and will usually go away in a few days. No action is needed, however, if the area becomes warm or tender to the touch, you should contact your attending veterinarian so he or she can evaluate the situation.
