Where can I find fire-resistant construction materials, and how do I know what to buy?

Fire-resistant construction materials can be found at your local lumberyard. You just need to know what to ask for and how to specify performance (for example, a noncombustible material, or in California, request decking that complies with the new fire code, Chapter 7A). For a number of reasons, it isn't always practical to specify noncombustible materials for all applications. Home design, vegetation management, and materials performance should be all be incorporated into your fire safe home. See FAQ 39221 for additional information on specifying construction materials.
