Do not do defensible space work on someone else's property without their permission. First, contact the individual and solicit their support and involvement. Often, defensible space is more effective if contiguous property owners are involved. If the property owner is not known, contact your county assessor's office for assistance. If you believe that your neighbor's property poses a threat to your home and your neighbor is unwilling to cooperate, contact your fire marshal and ask if there are applicable defensible space ordinances that can be enforced.
