After a fire, should I plant right away or wait?

This will depend on the season you experienced the burn. Following fall burns, planting usually takes place in the spring, unless weather conditions allow for a fall planting (warm temperatures and rain). The main concern is that you get sufficient moisture for new plantings to become established. If the season looks to be hot and dry immediately after a fire, or will turn very cold, then wait until rain can be counted on or temperatures rise.

Another consideration is whether you can get the required plant materials. Many nurseries will not have the number or selection of plant materials you require in the fall, making a spring planting your only choice.
