Is it worth buying bigger trees so that we get big trees faster, or do they not survive well when transplanting?

Larger trees will survive as well as smaller ones if they were handled correctly during lifting and transport. That said, research has shown that trees with a larger caliper (diameter) than others of the same species at the time of planting have a much greater survival and success rate.
