When evacuation orders are issued is the time to leave. In general, traveling on the roads when the fire is in the area increases the risk. The closer the fire is, the more dangerous it is to be on the road, as smoke can limit visibility and evacuation routes can be cut off by fire, traffic, or fallen trees. This is why it is important to be prepared and evacuate as early as possible. Leaving very late as the fire approaches is extremely dangerous, as exposure to the intense heat, blowing embers, and smoke (loss of road visibility) can greatly increase the risk of death.
