Distribution of the 2009 H1N1 vaccine has begun nationwide, with vaccine going to first responders and high risk patients. The seasonal flu vaccine will not protect against H1N1 virus. CDC indicates the seasonal influenza and novel H1N1 vaccine may be given at the same time, but they are suggesting people get their seasonal vaccine as soon as it is available.

CDC reports initial studies indicate adults will need only one injection of the novel H1N1 vaccine as immunity was sufficient within 8-10 days of receiving the first dose of the vaccine. Children under the age of 10 will need two doses of the vaccine.
