State law will determine how your property, including Roth IRA account balances, is handled in a civil judgment. Check with a local attorney for details about laws that pertain to your state.

Additionally, assets in employer-sponsored retirement savings plans, such as 401(k) plans, 403(b) plans, and 457 plans, may not be protected from judgments such as civil lawsuits and federal tax liens imposed by the IRS.
