Where do imported fire ants occur in the United States?

You can use the latest USDA APHIS PPQ quarantine map as a guide to where fire ants have been found. To date, fire ants are known to occur in 14 U.S. states or territories: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas and Puerto Rico. They are increasing their distribution in southeastern Virginia and can also be found sporadically in Maryland. See also: Geographic Distribution of Fire Ants.
