Yes, soybeans, or Edamames (Glycine max), are highly nutritious and produce fairly well in many areas. Certain varieties, commonly called vegetable soybeans, are milder in flavor than field soybeans. They are normally eaten in the green shell stage. The pods should be thick when fully mature but still green and tender. Seed them after the last chance of frost in rows 30 to 36 inches apart, with plants 2 to 3 inches apart in the row. Hardiness: USDA Zones 7 through 9. Soybeans require a frost-free growing season of 90 to 120 days.
