Japanese beetles are easily controlled by a variety of insecticides. Repeated applications are needed because beetles continue to come to attractive plants. Plants which grow rapidly and are especially attractive to the beetles are most difficult to protect. Contact your local Extension office for insecticide recommendations.

Beetle damage can be reduced by hand-picking. Work early in the morning when air temperatures are still cool and beetles are sluggish. Knock the beetles into a bucket of soapy water or 10% bleach solution (1 part bleach to 9 parts water).
