Insecticide sprays must be used while scales are tiny and crawling. Spray two to four times at seven- to 10-day intervals, primarily during May and June. Look for crawlers during the growing season.

During the winter use a dormant oil when the temperature is above 45 degrees F. In the summer use a summer-weight oil or summer spray. Contact your local Extension office for insecticide recommendations.
