The Hydrangea macrophylla flowers emerge from buds formed on the previous season's growth, and pruning should be done right after flowering. Unless the plant has grown out of bounds, there is no reason to prune it; if you do, you will be cutting off those flower buds. Wait until next spring after it has bloomed.
