Why do flying fire ants land in my swimming pool?

Flying (winged) fire ants are attracted to reflective surfaces. Therefore, the shiny water in your pool makes a great landing target. The flying ants are the fertile male and female ants. They have landed after flying from their nests to mate. Read Fire Ants in a Swimming Pool.
