All pesticides approved for use as a fire ant control measure are extensively tested for safe usage. However, many contain ingredients that are harmful to target pests but may be harmful to other organisms as well. Fire ant control materials vary greatly in formulations and active ingredients. THE KEY TO SAFE USE IS TO READ AND FOLLOW LABEL DIRECTIONS. Directions on the label give instructions for amounts to use, site restrictions, protective clothing, re-entry intervals and warnings for fish and wildlife. Most bait products contain a very small percentage of active ingredient and pose very little threat to nontarget species. However, there is always the possibility of adverse reactions in humans and other animals after exposure to any chemical.
