Geese can become aggressive when protecting nests possibly resulting in a bite or wing strike. While not generally life-threatening, it can cause severe injury if one is struck in the eye or similar vulnerable area. Geese are also a bird strike hazard to aircraft and need to be carefully managed when populations occur near airports. Goose droppings can make for slippery sidewalks and have caused people to slip and sustain fall injuries. Elderly populations should be particularly concerned about fall accidents. Finally, goose feces may increase bacteria counts in water resources, such as lakes and reservoirs.
