This is the $10 billion question. There are several options which we'll identify below, but the fact is that many, many small business owners either don't have health insurance, or they have it only because a spouse/partner works at a job that provides health insurance as a benefit. In some cases, the entrepreneur works a second job to be eligible for benefits.

Some trade associations and national advocacy groups are able to offer their members group rates on health care coverage. You should check with any groups that you are already a member of to see if they have anything available. Here are a couple of examples.

● The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is a small business advocacy group that offers business insurance and health care coverage to its members. To learn more about the NFIB, go to www.nfib.com.

● Another national advocacy group that offers access to a variety of insurance providers is the United States Federation of Small Businesses Inc. More information is available at US Federation of Small Businesses.

● If you have an agricultural business and live in a covered region, Farm Bureau members have access to several types of insurance coverage. To see if your region is covered, go to Farm Bureau.

● On a more local level, you should check with your chamber of commerce to see what might be available in your state.
