  1. Have you ever heard of "brome hay"? Is it O.K. for horses? Published: June 18, 2009
  2. We are in a second year drought area. I am looking to buy rolls of hay to feed horses over the winter. I have found someone who has foxtail millet rolls at a good price. The rolls look good, and the seller says he has sold a lot to horse owners and they love it. I have never run into this type of hay before and usually try to get timothy/orchardgrass mix. Any information on foxtail millet hay fed to horses would be appreciated. Published: June 18, 2009
  3. We had 200 bales of first-cut grass hay delivered in September. In the last few weeks, several of our horses have developed sores on gums and tongue. What is causing this and, if it is the hay, why did it take so long to develop? Published: June 09, 2009
  4. Should I make hay or silage out of my forage crops? Published: November 11, 2008
  5. If I want to substitute grain for hay to feed to my beef cows, how much can I feed? Published: October 22, 2008
  6. Baled wet Rye grass (375 small sqares). Because of bad weather some bales are starting to show mold. How much of this is bad for beef cows? Should I not feed it or should I mix it with other non moldy hay? How much mold is too much per bale? Published: October 13, 2008
  7. I have a 21-acre hay field that I harvest for horse feed. The field was originally seeded as alfalfa which is mostly gone at this point. Each year there seems to be more clover and weeds such as wild carrot and wild strawberry. Last year I had 7 acres plowed up and reseeded with a pasture mix. It seems to have been quite successful, but it also cost about $1,900 which will take a long time to recoup. I have been reading about the disadvantages of opening the soil and am wondering if it would be advisable to spray the weeds and add alfalfa and assorted grasses with a no-till method? 9. We have already bought round bales for this winter. Hay may be scarce again this year, and I'd like to know what the nutritional "shelf life" of fertilized rye grass hay is. Published: May 23, 2008
  10. What is the status of harvesting high-moisture hay? Published: February 26, 2008
  11. What is the proper amount/ration of alfalfa cubes to feed to a weanling? Published: January 14, 2008
