I have a five-year-old Thoroughbred cross that is chronically spooky. At night, his right eye has opalescent flecks in it, but his left eye has none of these. I have consulted my vet about this, and he thinks that the "opalescent flecks" I am seeing are the back of the retina. I am concerned because these flecks appear to be increasing in size, and his spookiness continues. I am observing these things at night, with a head "flashlight." When my vet came to see his eyes last year, it was during the day, and they were not visible. They are visible every night now. Updated: January 05, 2010

I have a mare with moon blindness. She was tested for leptospirosis, and her titer level was consistent with exposure but not active infection. Is it possible that this mare can spread leptospirosis to my other horses, via secretion in her urine or feces? Can she give it to a stallion if they breed? Updated: June 18, 2009
