Where to Advertise to Attract Underrepresented Professionals

Are you or your organization looking to advertise your employment opportunities to diverse audiences? Knowing where to advertise to attract underrepresented professionals can help open up your applicant pool to diverse audiences. Are you looking to reach people of color, women and other individuals of difference with a background or interest in agriculture, natural resources or other related sciences? A number of professional associations and organizations exist that may meet your needs and that provide opportunities for posting job announcements or reviewing resumes of potential employees. A number of these organizations and associations are listed below:

Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences - MANRRS is a national society that welcomes membership of people of all racial and ethnic group participation in agricultural and related sciences careers. MANRRS attempts to provide networks to support professional development of minorities. It is a springboard for their entry into and advancement in careers where they otherwise could be lost in the sheer number and established connections of mainstream participants. For student members, MANRRS provides role models and networking opportunities. MANRRS also offers students opportunities to enhance leadership and organizational and public speaking skills and to experience professional critique of scholarly worked in a "user friendly" environment.

Women in Natural Resources - Women in Natural Resources (WiNR) is a unique, high quality ejournal in the field of natural resources. It combines the best elements of a technical journal, the informal style of a newsletter, and the reader-friendly format of a magazine. It is designed and written by women at all levels in forestry, fisheries, wildlife, range, recreation, soils, and the environmental and social sciences as they relate to natural resources.

Native American Fish and Wildlife Society - The Society is a non-profit membership organization. It exists for the protection, conservation and enhancement of Native American fish & wildlife resources. The Society's purposes are charitable, educational, scientific and cultural.

American Indian Science and Engineering Society – The American Indian Science & Engineering Society promotes excellence, leadership and opportunities in education and professional development for American Indians and Alaska Natives. AISES (we) enrich the fields of science and engineering with Native traditions and strengthen communities with knowledge, resources and innovation.

Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science - The mission of SACNAS (Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science) is to encourage Chicano/Latino and Native American students to pursue graduate education and obtain the advanced degrees necessary for science research, leadership, and teaching careers at all levels.

Society for Mexican American Engineers and Scientists - To promote excellence in engineering, science, and mathematics while cultivating the value of cultural diversity by:

  • Motivating and mentoring students and professionals
  • Assisting students in securing financial aid and employment opportunities
  • Empowering students, parents, and professionals through educational maes outreach programs
  • Stimulating successful partnerships with the community, government, and industry to provide tomorrow's leaders

Association for Women in Science - The Association for Women in Science is dedicated to achieving equity and full participation for women in science, mathematics, engineering and technology. We are a Network, a Resource, and a Voice.
