Diestrus

Diestrus begins about 24 to 48 hours after ovulation. Diestrus lasts an average of 14 to 16 days.

During diestrus, the mare rejects the stallion with behavior typically seen in the form of:

  • Tail switching
  • Squealing
  • Striking
  • Biting
  • Kicking
