An area used to maintain the production of susceptible insect populations in a comprehensive cotton insect resistance management program. A refugia is a crop or host area that is left unplanted to a specific biotechnology (such as Bt). This results in a situation where adults which are possibly resistant to the Bt technology in question will have a high probability of mating with the higher number of refugia-produced, susceptible adults, thus producing susceptible offspring.
