CLEMSON – Nancy Porter, professor and extension family resource management specialist at Clemson University, received the 2007 Southern Regional Excellence in Extension Award from the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC).
The award is presented annually by the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy (ECOP) to an individual who has striven throughout his/her career to achieve a benchmark reflective of excellence in extension education programming.
“Without a doubt, Dr. Nancy Porter is a pioneering extension educator with far-reaching impact," said Jane Schuchardt, national program leader. "I whole-heartedly nominated her for the ECOP Award for Excellence in Extension. I have known Dr. Porter for more than a decade and have worked closely with her in the design, delivery and evaluation for the national extension initiative ‘Financial Security in Later Life (FSLL)’ and its adaptation to extension.”
Porter will be presented with a plaque and a cash award Nov. 11 at the NASULGC annual meeting in New York City.
Porter’s most recent contribution has been to position the FSLL initiative as a prototype program for extension’s Financial Security for All project. FSLL programs are web-based and ready for face-to-face delivery by extension educators. Financial Security for All is a program that will be launched in February 2008.
Porter is a graduate of Athens (Pa.) High School and taught in the Towanda Area School District from 1975 to 1985. She holds a bachelor's and master's degrees in home economics education from Mansfield University and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech. She and her husband, Tom, live in Central near their sons, Michael and Rob, and their families.
