LOGAN, Utah -— Utah State University is offering a workshop to help women in the process of expanding or starting a personal business and becoming an entrepreneur. The workshop is Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center, 2415 Washington Blvd., Ogden. It is sponsored by USU’s Weber County Extension.

Business and industry experts will be on hand to provide vital and useful information for women looking to expand or start their own business. The workshop will aid in the process of owning a personal business and give advice about potential pitfalls. Workshop topics include starting a business, marketing, legal issues, insurance, financing, record keeping and surviving in a man’s world.

“Sometimes women say, ‘I could do it if I just know how,’” said Ruby Ward, associate professor of economics at USU. “This is designed for those women to learn how. Not only can women gain the knowledge about how to start their own businesses, the workshop also gives them the chance to be successful as an entrepreneur.”

Additional workshop sponsors include the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development, the Small Business Development Center, in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Ogden Standard-Examiner, Bank of Utah, Box Elder County Economic Development and the Bear River Valley Chamber of Commerce.

There is $55 charge to attend but those who register by Sept. 19 can save $10. The workshop also includes lunch and a lecture by keynote speaker Angel Shannon and 10 other industry professionals. Women attending will have the opportunity to meet with those professionals and other women entrepreneurs with similar goals and problems that come with business ownership.

To register for the workshop or for more information, contact the USU Weber County Extension office at (801) 399-8200 or in person at 1181 N. Fairgrounds Drive, Ogden. To print and mail your registration, go to http://extension.usu.edu/we.
