Legal in some states. A self proving will/affidavit is one which is properly notarized and while being notarized, the notary certifies that the witnesses and the testator properly signed the will (testator/will maker was of sound mind and knows he/she is signing the will). Serves as the testimony and thereby avoids the delay and expense of locating witnesses at the time of probate.
