Short Biography
Kristen Harvey (formly Janicki) grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. Her grandparents and great grandparents settled in the Chicagoland area from Poland, where a majority of the family still remains.
Kristen always had a love for animals, and started riding when she was 12 years old at a local Hunter, Dressage, and Eventing barn. From 1994-1998, she attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences. In college, Kristen was part of the Equestrian Team (hunter) and Horse Judging Team. After graduation, she moved to Lexington, KY to attend Graduate School at the University of Kentucky, studying under Dr. Laurie Lawrence in the area of Equine Nutrition. Kristen graduated in 2001 with her Masters degree from UK, and went back to Illinois to work for a year as a Regional Equine Specialist. In 2002, she moved back to Lexington, KY to work in her current position as Extension Associate for Equine Activities. Most of her work is coordinating the KY 4-H Horse Program, but she also coaches the UK Horse Judging Team.
In her spare time, Kristen enjoys riding her Paint Horse, Romeo, who she has trained since he was 4 years old. Romeo has been shown in Hunter, Combined Training, and now currently is running barrels. She is also training a 4 year old Quarter Horse, Truly Texata, and hopes to show her in Reining in 2008.
