Organically grown corn follows a set of guidelines that does not allow the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides for at least three years in the field where the crop is grown.

Composted manure is allowed. Natural pesticides (such as Bt toxin) are allowed.

For more information on organic guidelines, go to the USDA National Organic Program Web site at http://www.ams.usda.gov/nop/indexIE.htm.

For more information on this and other topics related to corn production, contact your state extension corn specialist or your local extension educator/agent.
