Results are mixed. In the past, twin rows (7-inch twins, spaced on 30-inch centers) frequently had lower grain yields than 30-inch rows. Grain yield decreases were often associated with poor weed control because cultivation is not an option in twin row systems. Today, most data indicates that twin rows are intermediate in response to 15- and 30-inch rows. The major advantage of twin rows is economic; with current manufacture design one planter can be used to plant a number of crops.
