MANHATTAN, Kan. - Just as warmer weather is working its way through Kansas, insects also are beginning to work their way through the state´s farm fields.

To help producers identify and control the pests, Kansas State University entomologists have just unveiled the "K-State Field Crop Insect Management Guides" for 2008.

The guides are now available at county and district K-State Research and Extension offices and on the Extension entomology Web site: http://www.entomology.ksu.edu/extension . (Click "Publications" on the left side of the screen.)

The updated publications cover insect management for corn, cotton, sorghum, soybeans, sunflowers and wheat. They list various pests that affect those crops and include tables with treatment options. For many of the pests, the management guides also provide additional information, including photos and links to other publications.

Another recently revised publication that´s available now is "Biological Control of Insect Pests on Field Crops in Kansas" (MF2222). It is online at http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/library/entml2/MF2222.PDF.
