BROOKINGS, S.D. - Bull nutrition is the topic of a new publication from South Dakota State University.

SDSU Extension Extra 2065, “Bull Nutrition,” is available at this link: http://agbiopubs.sdstate.edu/articles/ExEx2065.pdf. Or ask at your county Extension office.

The document discusses pre-weaning and post-weaning nutrition, and includes a table of data showing daily nutrient requirements for growing beef bull calves. The publication includes information about conditioning prior to the breeding season; breeding season nutrition; post-breeding season; and special challenges in keeping bulls in good condition in operations that have both spring- and fall-calving herds.

Consult the publication for more information, or visit with your county Extension livestock educator.

SDSU Extension Beef Specialists Julie Walker and Ken Olson wrote the publication with the help of SDSU Extension Beef Reproduction Management Specialist George Perry.
