MANHATTAN, Kan. - Shopping for gently worn clothes at consignment or thrift shops and garage sales typically offers a savings on children´s clothes, said Deb Brosdahl, an associate professor of apparel, textiles and interior design in the College of Human Ecology at Kansas State University.
"A 5-year-old isn´t likely to be concerned about fashion," said Brosdahl, who also suggested buying children fewer items during growth spurts.
Encouraging a child to wear - and enjoy - clothing, rather than having them "save it for good" cuts down on the amount of clothing needed, said Brosdahl, who also is a K- State Research and Extension researcher.
