Feed Management

Opportunities to become certified in Feed Management will be offered in Texas and Pennsylvania during October and November, 2008. Feed management is one of the six core components of a Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plan (CNMP) as defined by the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). Feed is the largest source of nutrient import to farms, followed by commercial fertilizer. Efficiently managing feed inputs can have a substantial impact on the farm's overall nutrient balance.

After completing a feed management workshop, Professional Animal Scientists (PAS) or Registered Animal Specialists (RAS) must then successfully complete an exam which includes species-specific content. To maintain their certification, animal scientists must participate in continuing education opportunities.

More information is available at the American Registry of Professional Animal Scientists (ARPAS) Feed Management Certification.
