Amino acid-beef cattle

Amino acid- Are the building blocks of proteins. The elements C, H, O, N and P are joined together to form amino acids which in turn are joined to form protein. All amino acids have a common property of containing a carboxyl group and an amino group on the adjacent carbon atom.

Two types of Amino Acids

  • essential amino acids
    • the animal cannot produce in adequate amounts to satisfy its requirements
  • nonessential amino acids
    • the tissues of the animal can synthesize in adequate amounts
