Amino acid- Are the building blocks of proteins. The elements C, H, O, N and P are joined together to form amino acids which in turn are joined to form protein. All amino acids have a common property of containing a carboxyl group and an amino group on the adjacent carbon atom.
Two types of Amino Acids
- essential amino acids
- the animal cannot produce in adequate amounts to satisfy its requirements
- nonessential amino acids
- the tissues of the animal can synthesize in adequate amounts
