Brisket Disease- A noninfectious disease of cattle characterized by congestive right heart failure due to stress of high altitude (usually above 7,000 ft).
Clinical Symptoms
- edema in brisket
- jugular vein distension
- high neonatal calf mortality
Prevention
- keep cattle below 5,000 ft altitude
- practice genetic selection (primarily bulls using pulmonary arterial pressure test
Treatment
- take affected cattle to elevations below 5,000 ft
