Cooperative Extension Service - The system by which land grant universities extend research-based information on a wide variety of topics to the general public. The Cooperative Extension Service was created by joint legislation of the state and Federal government. The Federal law, the Smith-Lever Act of 1914, created the structure for each state to authorize an appropriation to each organized county.
