Coccidiosis

Coccidiosis - Infection by coccidia, a subclass of parasitic protozoa, which can cause destruction of the intestinal mucosa.

  • Clinical Symptoms
    • Fluid feces, bloody feces, staining
    • Central Nervous System signs
  • Prevention
    • Avoid crowding, wet pens, wet pastures, filth
    • Remove affected animals from lots in early stages
  • Treatment
    • Sulfadimethoxine, 25mg/lb for first day followed by 12.5mg/lb for 4 days
    • Amprolium
