Estrous- An adjective meaning “heat,” which modifies such words as “cycle.” The estrous cycle is the heat cycle, or time from one heat to the next.
The estrous cycle consists of a series of predictable reproductive events. During this time females are provided opportunities to copulate and become pregnant. Once conception occurs the female will then enter a period of anestrus that ends after parturition, uterine involution, and lactation.
