Vaccine- Suspension of attenuated or killed microbes or toxins administered to induce active immunity.
Three forms of vaccine:
- Killed organism vaccines. Dead organisms or their parts are utilized. The chemical antigen remains intact into stimulated and immune response.
- Inactivated bacterial toxins. Toxicity of a pathogen is neutralized while the antigen's structure remain in place.
- Modified-live organism vaccines. Organisms are grown in unique mediums or mutated to eliminate disease-causing capability while retaining antigenic structure.
