Tetanus

Tetanus- An acute infectious disease caused by toxin elaborated by the bacterium Clostridium tetani.

  • Clinical Symptoms
    • Spasms, contractions of voluntary muscles, results in high morality rate
  • Prevention
    • Avoid contamination of open wounds; vaccinate in areas of high risk
  • Treatment
    • Antibiotics
    • Tranquilizers or Chloral Hydrate to relax muscles
    • High does of tetanus antitoxins
    • Keep cattle in quiet dark areas
