Steer

Steer- A castrated bovine male that was castrated early in life before puberty.

Male bovine are castrated to increase:

  • Feedlot gain
  • Yearling gain
  • Feed/lb gain
  • Quality grade

When looking at carcass goals, steers are far more superior than intact males or females which is why they are the primary cattle found in feedlots.
