Latitude

An angular measurement made from the center of the earth to north or south of the equator. It comprises the north/south component of the latitude/longitude coordinate system, which is used in GPS data collection. Traditionally, north is considered positive, and south is considered negative. Example: 43º south of the equator may be expressed as either unsigned (-43º) or signed (43º S).
