BROOKINGS, S.D. – A statewide 4-H Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) camp for youth 11 to 13 will be held June 2-5 at Camp Bob Marshall near Custer.
The South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service 4-H staff will run the unique science-focused camp, which is new for 2009.
Camp registration costs $50, and the deadline to register is May 15. To sign up, ask for a form at your county Extension office.
With a focus on robotics, forensic science, rocketry, GPS, chemistry, and other science subjects, the camp is open for both 4-H members and non-members.
Extension 4-H/youth development Educator Amy Frerichs said the new camp includes traditional camping activities such as campfires and canoeing as well as science education.
"The SET camp is a new and fun way to spend some summer days, building robots, firing rockets, and other hands-on activities," Frerichs said. "We are excited to host it in the Black Hills and invite 4-H'ers from around the state, as well as 11-13 year olds who are not in 4-H, to join us at the camp."
