BROOKINGS, S.D. – Information about creating effective safety measures for a multicultural workforce is now available online at a South Dakota State University Dairy Science Department Web site.
Find it at http://dairysci.sdstate.edu/extension/extension.htm.
Scroll down to “Dairy Farm Safety” and click on “New project products — March-April 2009.”
South Dakota State University specialists are presenting the same materials this week at the Central Plains Dairy Expo, set for April 1-2 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. Umberto Francesa, a project assistant with SDSU’s Dairy Science Department, speaks April 1 about SDSU’s Farm Safety Project for dairy producers. Francesa assists the South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service with dairy safety training for Hispanic workers.
“Regrettably, the weather might prevent some people from attending,” South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service Dairy Specialist Alvaro Garcia said. “We’ve made the materials available online at no cost so that even those producers who cannot be at the conference can tap into this presentation about building a culture of safety on the dairy farm.”
The project is co-funded by the USDA North Central Risk Management Education Center and the Midwest Dairy Consortium. The Cooperative Extension Services in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota are working together in the project.
Contact SDSU Extension Dairy Specialist Alvaro Garcia for more information about dairy safety training from SDSU. Call him at (605) 688-5488, or e-mail him at Alvaro.Garcia@sdstate.edu.
