Re-think Your Drink Learning Lesson

The Self-Learning segments provide an in-depth look at important topics within each of the Families, Food, and Fitness areas. Each learning area is made up of multiple sections that may take more time than other material on the site to complete. Because the learning areas present more information, we suggest you set aside 15 – 30 minutes to enjoy the full benefit of each Self-Learning segment.

Beverages are an important part of your diet. They are mostly water, a nutrient that’s essential to life. In fact, about 70% of your total body weight is water and, most, if not all of your bodily functions depend on it. When choosing beverages you should try to make them count as healthful contributions to your diet. Your best beverage choices are water, low-fat milk or 100% juice, instead of soda, sugary fruit drinks or sports drinks, which are high in calories.

In this lesson, you will:

  • Learn more about juice and juice drinks
  • Find out how much sugar is in soda drinks
  • Understand why milk is beneficial for strong bones
  • Learn what counts as one serving as milk
  • Get tips for making wise drink choices
