AUBURN UNIVERSITY, Ala. -- Nutritious but economical foods are in demand through these difficult times. Feeding the family nutritious foods and staying within a budget can be a challenge. If you had the menus planned out for your family would you use them? And, if a shopping list was provided for you, would you use it?
If you answered yes, then you are in luck. The Alabama Cooperative Extension System has a publication that will work for you, "The Weekly Menu Ideas for the Family." Each menu shows you how to serve your family good meals for less. Menus are planned for a family of four, two adults, one teenager and one child. They are simple and they provide the nutrition an average family of four needs. If your family is larger, you can double the recipes and freeze leftovers.
Along with the menus, the publication includes a shopping list. The list can keep you on track and help prevent overspending in the grocery store. Also, you can plan your family meals ahead, which will allow you to feed your family better. Planning helps you take advantage of special offers in the market and eliminate many extra and costly visits to the store.
It will help you manage your time. You can use your time more efficiently because you can see at a glance the entire week's foods and plan accordingly. The recipes and preparation instructions are included.
"Weekly Menu Ideas for the Family," HE-0528, can be viewed on our Web site at http://www.aces.edu/pubs/docs/H/HE-0528/HE-0528.pdf or you can request one from your county Extension office.
