MODULE 8 UNIT II -- Framing Your International Experience

Time: Variable

Why Important:

Communicating about global experiences and interdependence becomes an important consideration in the effort to internationalize Extension.

Objective:

To introduce materials, exercises and tools developed by Carol Radomski and Hiram Larew (2002) based on research conducted by the Aspen Institute (permission requested). The unit will draw on the Global Interdependence Initiative (GII), which seeks to “end world hunger and poverty and preserve our global environment for future generations”.

Utilization:

• The Guide is intended to better inform and engage the public in discussions and actions appropriate in an interdependent world. It will be most helpful in discussions focused in the area of Agriculture.

• Framing Exercise: Sharing Your Overseas Experience can be utilized at in-service programming and also planning initiatives for international experiences.

Included in supplemental file marked UNIT II are the items identified below in 8.2.1, 8.2.2, and 8.2.3. Current web sites are provided for the items in 8.2.4 and 8.2.5.

Global Interdependence in Agriculture – A User’s Guide for Effective Communication. Carol Radomski (2002). Identifies the best ways to talk to agricultural and rural audiences about global issues. Included are sample articles and framing exercises.

Global Interdependence in Agriculture – Communicating Effectively. A PowerPoint presentation by Carol Radomski to introduce the user’s guide.

8.2.3
